Here is a vid showing the project working(except for LED 7, i either have a bad cable or a bad solder joint, haven’t had time to trouble shoot yet)

(it should embed a youtube vid about here, if it does not, copy and paste the URL into your browser, sorry)

Here is the “bottom” of the board, i put the LED’s and the other SMD components(a cap and the resistors)down here:

The “top” of the board, yes, it is burnt/delamininating, i need to work on my “reflow” process for SMT soldering, but other than makine a jumper or 2 necessary it doesn’t effect the board other than looks:

and a little bit different view of the board:

Files:

*ones with “DFM” in name are NOT exactly the same as the one i showed above, they are a slightly refined design, mostly designed to minimize board space*

*Board and .sch files where created in Eagle*

“Bench” Power supply, Rev 2

Ok, sorry, its been a while since i updated, i actually decided to just ditch my existing design(it wasn’t fitting int he case i got very well) and re-do it from scratch, plus my old design was buggy, it keep having some internal shorts and I got tied of trying to trace them, so i ditched it. As you can see, i moved the heat sinks to groups of two, this way I can access the mounting screws easier.

The biggest change was adding the LT1021 Precision Voltage Reference(10V +-1%) chip. It is a PDIP-8 chip. i’m quite happy with my decision to add this.

Outside, with the switch on and everything powered up, showing my labels as well, the hole in the top left is a mistake from trying to make the case fit Rev 1, The reason why the Ground(black) and 10V reference wire(yellow) are hanging out, is because the jacks for those are on back-order from mouser, hopefully one i get those i’ll update again with the final product look:

I was quite happy with how my labels for the back turned out, if you can’t read the one on the left, it says “Minimum 14V Maximum 35V” and has a picture showing that it needs a “Center Postive” adapter:

View of the front panel without it plugged in or turned on:

This picture just shows the “Gut” you can see my reigns in effect here:

Here are the images of the PCB after etching, drilling and “tinning”:

I’ll be posting in a few days the schematic and board files for anyone interested, i haven’t posted them yet as i want to clean them up for “manufacturability” as right now they are tuned for my home etching process

“Bench” Power Supply

I decided that i needed a “bench” Power supply, and i didn’t really want to spend much money, so i decided, what do i have to make one, well i have a 12V Wallwart that can put out about 1.2 AMPS yes, thats right AMPS.

So now i just needed to regulate this down to some more “useful” voltages, and since i measured the output of the “wall wart” was without any load I know that can be up to 25V or so. so i need to regulate that. Now since i’m not a electornics Engineer or anything, i used what i know, Linear Regulators, now i’m not going to do a tutorial on those or anything, google for that if you want. So basically this how the volgae goes:

Input –> On/Off Switch –> PTC(for current protection just in case) –> Filter Cap –> 7812 –> output filter caps –> another PTC –> Output

12V “output –> “input” filter cap –>7809 –> output filter caps –> another PTC –> output

9V “output” –> “input” filter cap –> 7805 –> output filter caps –> PTC–> Output

9V “output –> “input” filter cap –> 783V3 (3.3V) –> output filter caps –> PTC(can you tell i am obsessed with protection yet?) –>output

Whew, my fingers are tired now, lol, follow this link to my Flickr Photo set, i’ll write another post laterr today or tommarow, http://www.flickr.com/photos/56750521@N03/sets/72157625786600382/

EDIT: I think i’ll wait for part 2 until after I get the rest of the regulators, heatsinks, caps, binding post, and case, which should be here thursday or friday, hopefully

Thanks if you read this, and i’ll put a poll up asking how you got here, since this is a new blog
